July 4, 2009 and July 5, 2009
We started our day by participating in the Long Leaf Plantation parade. We rode our bikes, sang songs, and played games. Then it was on to Lake Helen to watch their parade. Going to Lake Helen is like stepping back in time. The parade always has lots of tractors, horses and candy. Once the famous Nathans Hot Dog Eating Contest was over it was nap time for Jeremy. Well, that didn’t last long and we were on the road heading to New York. The kids slept from about 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. so we kept driving and driving and driving. After 20 long hours we arrived at Camp David. Uncle Dave, Jennifer, Don and Keenan were there to greet us.
The kids loved exploring and admiring the lake and mountains. It’s indescribable. It’s a bit colder than we are used to but a nice refreshing change. We took the boat out on the lake and both kids got to drive. Life is good.
Well, it’s off to bed under lots of covers for another adventure.
